Home/About
Some of Austin’s most passionate, successful, and innovative cultural creatives are eager to take your junior/senior high child on a cutting edge learning adventure this summer.
No where else will your young adult be able to gain hands-on knowledge from a former British diplomat and professional future trends adviser to clients such as Sony, Phillips, BBC, and MTV, to the editor and publisher of Edible Austin magazine, to the creator of a neighborhood farming co-op, to an events production CEO, to a sustainable home builder, to a innovative art educator inventor, an e-fashion designer, a roboticist, a “circuit bender“, and more.
Much more sophisticated than a day camp, DIYFuture Makers’ week-long techsplorations are like university extension courses designed to empower your child with real-world, cutting edge skills at the same time they’re having a blast manifesting their most brilliant ideas!
If your child is a motivated self-starter, considers him or herself a maker, a “hacker”, a tech geek, or simply has a passion for learning, THESE are the camps him or her (and you, as they are open to adults as well).
“Make things you use in your everyday life and you develop a relationship with and a connection to the things around you.” ~ Mark Frauenfelder, founder of BoingBoing and editor-in-chief of Make Magazine.
A stimulating “SUMMER CAMP THINKTANK”– Students will have the opportunity to experience DIY, hands-on, “maker” projects and a fascinating, innovative study of the theoretical, practical, and entrepreneurial. THREE SESSIONS:
June 4-15 (Food/Home) Food: week one; Home: week two.

Hyde Park area Bronze Doors Academy will host DIYFuture Makers, in keeping with the school’s college prep, liberal arts education approach focused on preparing children for our global, 21st-century culture. The DIYFuture Makers Summer Camp is also a way to deepen the school’s goal to act as a community hub for homeschoolers and lifelong learners, particularly those with a DIY/maker affinity.
The DIYFuture Makers Summer Camp is the brainchild of Maggie Duval, Camp program Creator/Director, who has captured the zeitgeist of bringing innovative, cutting edge and educational future programs to students.
Students will experience groundbreaking talks by experts on emerging techniques / technologies and will make their own projects related each week’s theme. They will also have access to an event expert that will guide them every step of the way in developing their own exciting “showcase” event to present the Friday evening of each session, which is an ingenious way to teach them crucial marketing skills and connects their work to a larger audience.
Week long classes include: DIYFuture Food (growing, nutrition, and cuisine), DIYFuture Home (convergent, experiential, cradle-to-cradle design), DIYFuture Human (AI and robotics) and DIYFuture Fashion (eTextiles, interactive wearables), DIYFuture Music (hacking, build your own music makers), and DIYFuture Art (convergent, transmedia)
This program targets the insatiably curious (and self-directed) student entering 6th grade and up (including adults) who naturally gravitates toward entrepreneurial and inventive approaches to life.
Cost: $250 per week
